Would you plumb your own toilet?

Would you ask your electrician to have a look at your teeth? I could go on… So why have designers become redundant in the eyes of some? Like all services providers we learn our trade either in college or through working for someone. We spend years gaining experience in jobs working our way up the ladder. Some of us end up working for ourselves and in this current climate this can be the only way we can continue to work in Design. With websites that offer you the opportunity to create your own marketing, people then think that they are designers because they can follow the instructions on a website. This is frustrating and disheartening for those of us who spent years in college or working for others only to be told you’re no longer good to us! Like the typewriter sitting in the corner we are more ornamental than useful. I thank the stars every day that the whole population doesn’t have this opinion but I fear it’s only a matter of time as day after day I see pointless “Memes” on facebook, that scream bad type. Let’s just hope common sense and taste stay for good!
